The Claddagh Tradition Commemorates Ireland’s Greatest True Love Story
This radiant necklace is lovingly crafted in the Claddagh tradition that dates back to 17th-century Ireland, when the creator of the iconic ring, Richard Joyce, left his home on the shores of Galway Bay to seek a better life overseas. Richard's ship was captured by pirates shortly after reaching the high seas. He was destined to spend 14 long years in captivity, working as a goldsmith and jeweller, before he would see Ireland and his childhood sweetheart again.

In 1689, his freedom restored, Richard created the first of his iconic Claddagh rings to ask for the hand in marriage of the woman who had remained faithful to him during their long years apart. He designed the paired hands to represent friendship, the crown to speak of unbreakable loyalty, and the heart as his symbol of undying love.
