The Claddagh True Love Story

In 1675, a young Richard Joyce set sail to make his fortune overseas. As luck would have it, pirates boarded his vessel, and he was taken into slavery in North Africa. He was put to work as a goldsmith and jeweller and spent the next 14 years perfecting his craft, always dreaming of one day returning to Ireland.

In 1689, he regained his freedom and was determined to find his way home. In Ireland once more, he created the first Claddagh ring to win the heart of his childhood sweetheart and future wife. He chose the crown to signify their loyalty, the hands, their unbreakable friendship, and the heart, the never-ending love that brought them together once more.
